After over a decade of collaborating with a builder and colleague on various projects for our clients, it was a privilege to take on the task of re-designing his family's home. The aim was to create a modern, functional space for entertaining that would match the caliber of his previous outstanding projects.

Upon assessing the outdated and cramped kitchen with overflowing storage, we were challenged to enhance storage capacity, incorporate a dedicated bar area, and better connect the kitchen with the living and dining areas while maintaining a tucked away space to hide kitchen clutter. By reconfiguring the layout, removing upper cabinets, and repositioning the peninsula, we not only optimized storage but also improved visual flow to the dining & living room. The decision to raise a portion of the peninsula added both functional storage facing the dining & also the ability to conceal the prep area. The introduction of a slatted wood element created visual connection to the living room and was carried through to the adjacent bar to connect the spaces harmoniously. Inspired by the split-level home and the wife's preference for deep reds & greens, we curated a Pacific Northwest Midcentury palette featuring contrasting wood tones and light finishes to accentuate the statement piece Oxblood pendants & induction range, & newly tiled deep-green fireplace.

Transforming the shared bathroom on the main level into two distinct spaces – a private en suite for the primary bedroom and a stylish powder room for guests – presented an exciting design challenge. Drawing inspiration from the concept of an "airplane bathroom" proposed by our client, a former Evergreen Airlines VP, we infused the powder room with playful yet sophisticated elements reminiscent of the Jet Age. Having a connection to the aviation industry, the client called an old friend to acquire three Boeing 777 passenger windows that we recessed into the walls - 2 of which were inset with mirrors, and the 3rd reveals a peak out the window to Mt. Hood past the plane wing. The incorporation of integrated LED lighting (replicating cabin mood lighting), sleek, glossy finishes, aviation-inspired details such as a wing-shaped faucet, graphic cloud wallcovering, and airplane windows added a touch of whimsy to the space, creating a unique and memorable experience for the family & their guests.
