The 2-Step Cottages used the City of Portland middle housing, cottage cluster option to create 4 new detached single family homes on a close in lot with an abundance of neighborhood amenities within walking distance. Recent changes in the zoning code allow for 4 separate lots on what was previously just 1.

The building designs employ alternating shed roof forms that allow for high vaulted upper level ceilings with clear story windows to introduce daylight and views of the sky into the interiors while still maintaining privacy between neighbors on the just 5800 square foot site.

Each home is 1200 square feet with 2 bedrooms and 2 1/2 bathrooms in an efficiently designed 16’ X 40’ footprint and includes a yard space and a covered patio for those rainy days. All electric appliances and solar ready!
